Kidde, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of fire safety products, has just announced a nationwide recall of nearly 230,000 smoke detectors and combination smoke-carbon monoxide alarms for potential “failure to warn” defects.
The units in question are Kidde TruSense Smoke Alarms and Combination Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarms and were sold at WalMart, Home Depot, Menards, Amazon, and other stores online and across the United States between May 2019 and September 2020. The recalled models sold for between $10 and $70.
A notice on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website (CPSC.gov) urges consumers to immediately contact Kidde for a free replacement alarm. The notice also directs consumers to keep using their current Kidde alarms until replacement alarms installed.
What Kidde TruSense Models are Included in the Recall?
Units included in the recall are Kiddee Model Series 2040, 2050, 2060, and 2070 Smoke and Combination Smoke/CO alarms. Recalled alarms will have the TruSense logo or “AMBER=FAULT’ printed on the front and the model number printed on the back. Kidde has provided a guide on their website to help consumers determine if their units have been recalled and need to be replaced. The guide also includes steps for submitting a claim and receiving replacement alarms. According to the guide, replacements should arrive within 3 business days.
